Located across the Ohio River from downtown Cincinnati, Covington was established in 1814 and is today the fifth-most-populous city in Kentucky. Central Covington, a mostly residential area, is dedicated to the preservation and revitalization of historic homes, including the recent decades of renovation of Italianate Victorian houses in Old Seminary Square and the addition of Helentown to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
Included in Central Covington are the neighborhoods of Old Seminary Square, Helentown, Westside, and Peaselburg. These walking neighborhoods feature narrow lots with “shotgun” houses; most historic homes in these areas are either Italianate or Victorian Vernacular built from 1880 to 1910. Prices range from $125,000 to $325,000.
